A reference for real life
A useful personality guide should help you explain something concrete: how you prepare for a difficult conversation, what information you need before deciding, or why a shared plan is not working. We begin with those situations and use type vocabulary as one possible way to examine them.
Mbtipedia brings together 16 type profiles, an eight-function guide, original questionnaires, and articles on common points of confusion. It does not offer a certified assessment or a clinical service.
Independent, with clear sources
Mbtipedia is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official product of The Myers-Briggs Company, Myers & Briggs Foundation, or 16Personalities. MBTI and Myers-Briggs refer to their respective trademark owners and instruments. We use the terms to discuss the framework and distinguish it from our original tools.
The official MBTI assessment, the 16Personalities framework, and our self-reflection exercises should not be treated as interchangeable. When describing a framework, we link its own explanation. When discussing a research finding, we identify the study. When presenting a scenario, we label it as an illustration.
How we write
The examples are original editorial constructions, not claims about observed participants. We avoid treating a type as an ability level, diagnosis, moral ranking, or prediction of compatibility. A description should leave room for a person to say that it does not fit.
We do not invent professional credentials, verification badges, scientific validation, or celebrity self-reports. The famous INFJs guide shows how we handle a topic where widely repeated claims often lack clear evidence. Our accuracy article explains why familiar language and research support are different questions.
Begin wherever you are
If you are new, start with the short preference reflection and read the scoring explanation before interpreting the result. If you already use a type label, choose a profile and look for one specific example that fits and one that does not. The mismatch may be as informative as the match.
If you are comparing two labels, try INFJ vs. INFP as an example of the approach. You do not need to settle your identity to borrow a useful question. Keep observations that help you understand yourself, and let go of wording that makes your experience smaller.
What to expect next
We revise our content as sources are checked and the tools are evaluated. The project makes no claim of a complete research review or a validated measurement system. We document how the exercises are scored and how answers are handled in the guides below.
Read how the exercises work and how your answers are handled. The best use of this reference is a continuing conversation between the words on the page and the details of your own life.
